Hardbaits - Cost, Losses and Alternatives
Metal and hard plastic lures, especially spoons and other hardbaits, are widely used when fishing in Norway. Brands such as Savage Gear, Westin or Abu Garcia are known for their quality, but they also come at a price. In Norway, this becomes noticeable quite quickly, as lure losses are common. Rocks, kelp, strong currents and unknown underwater structures mean that lures are regularly lost.
When a single spoon costs between ten and fifteen euros or even more, and two or three are lost in a single day, the enjoyment of fishing is clearly reduced. For this reason, I decided to test a more affordable alternative.
I ordered spoons from Temu , five pieces for 175 NOK, which is roughly 15 euros. This means each lure costs about one fifth of what many branded spoons cost. I ordered the 35-gram version.

My first impression was surprisingly positive. The overall finish, paint quality and shape are comparable to much more expensive models. The spoons cast very well and show an unobtrusive, functional action in the water. The only noticeable difference is in the hooks. They are not quite on the level of high-end branded hooks, but they still do their job. Anyone who wants to can easily replace them.
In terms of catching fish, the lures also performed well. I was able to catch several fish right away, naturally during the time recommended by Fiskhelper. Whether this was pure coincidence or not is difficult to say, but the overall impression remains positive. For the price, the performance exceeded my expectations.
Maybe I was simply lucky with my Temu choice, or maybe these spoons are better than their price suggests. For Norway, where lure losses have to be expected, they are definitely an interesting option. Losing a lure is simply less frustrating.
