Fishing with Rig Setups

I usually fish with hardbaits, actively and directly, but every now and then I feel like trying something different. That's how I got into rig setups, a finesse approach that presents the bait slowly and close to the bottom. My experience so far comes from freshwater, where I've tried Texas, Carolina, and drop shot rigs. The question was whether they would work in the sea. In principle, yes, but the difference lies in weight: currents, drift, and greater depths require heavier sinkers, otherwise the bait doesn't reach the bottom.

That's also where their typical weaknesses show: rigs are harder to cast and more sensitive to wind. Carolina and drop shot rigs tangle easily, while the Texas rig handles best. Using a 14-gram sliding sinker and various soft plastics, casting was manageable, but the bait mostly attracts smaller fish, like wrasses, which are protected year-round in Norway. I'm not convinced you'll catch bigger or better fish with rigs.

Still, it's worth a try. The Texas rig remains my favorite, and even if it's not a particularly effective method, it offers new experiences and keeps fishing interesting and that's what it's really about for me.
